Workshops · Roles
Roles is where learning shifts.
Culture sets the conditions. Agency opens the door. Roles is what happens when learners walk through it and start driving. These six workshops examine what it takes to transfer the role of thinking to the learner, and to design learning that is genuinely worth doing.
They are organized by how they engage the head, the heart, and the hands, so you can choose the entry point that fits where your team is right now.
Learning is not for coverage. It is for helping learners see the relationships between ideas, so they can solve real problems and create things that have never existed before.

The Head: understanding roles
These workshops examine what learning is actually for, and what has to shift in our thinking before any of the practical changes can take root.
Workshop 01 · 1 Day
From Content to Concepts
Examine the difference between teaching things to know and teaching ideas that transfer. This workshop explores conceptual learning, how it works, why it matters, and what it looks like when a school designs deliberately for understanding that moves across contexts rather than knowledge that stays inside a unit.
Workshop 02 · 1 Day
From Skills to Competency
Explore the difference between being able to do something in a lesson and owning it across any context. This workshop examines what genuine competency looks like, how to design for it, and why the shift from skill-teaching to competency-building changes what assessment can honestly tell us about a learner's growth.
The Heart: feeling the shift in roles
These workshops focus on the relational and dispositional shifts that make it possible for learners to take on a more active role, and for educators to genuinely let them.
Workshop 03 · 1 Day
Playfulness as a Professional Practice
Reframe playfulness from something children do to a disposition that drives curiosity, experimentation, and innovation at any age. This workshop examines why playful learning is not a break from serious work but the conditions under which serious work becomes possible, and how to design for it without losing rigor.
Workshop 04 · 1 Day
Inquiry and the Courage to Follow a Question
Explore what genuine inquiry requires of a learner and an educator. This workshop examines the emotional conditions that make inquiry possible, what gets in the way of it in most schools, and how to build the kind of classroom where a learner's question is not the start of a unit but the engine of it.
The Hands: designing for roles
These workshops are about the practical design decisions that transfer the role of thinking to the learner. They are where the mindset shift becomes a classroom reality.
Workshop 05 · 1 Day
Co-Creating Learning with Students
Design learning experiences where learners are genuine partners in deciding what they will do, how they will do it, and what success looks like. This workshop builds practical tools for co-constructing success criteria, anchor charts, and learning intentions with students rather than for them.
Workshop 06 · 1 Day
From Assessment to Discernment
Shift assessment from something that happens to learners at the end of a unit to something learners do throughout their learning. This workshop explores what it means for a learner to develop genuine discernment, the ability to judge their own work honestly, and how to build the structures that make that possible without removing the teacher from the process.
Bespoke
Built around your school.
Sometimes a school needs something that sits between two workshops. A team that has done the conceptual work in Workshop 1 but is not ready to hand the design process over to learners. A group that needs the inquiry conditions from Workshop 4 and the practical co-creation tools from Workshop 5 woven together into one day that is entirely theirs.
Bespoke is the same framework, built around your school's specific people, context, and starting point. No two schools are the same. This option honors that.
Bespoke workshops require a minimum of 8 weeks lead time. The design process begins with a conversation about where your school is and where you want to go.
