Workshops · Agency
Agency is what changes everything for a learner.
A learner with agency does not wait to be told what to think. They have a voice in their own learning, a choice in how they demonstrate it, and the confidence to advocate for themselves when something is not working.
These six workshops examine what agency actually looks like in practice, and what gets in the way of it. They are organized by how they engage the head, the heart, and the hands, so you can choose the entry point that fits where your team is right now.
The greatest misconception in education is that learners cannot do anything on their own. Agency is the work of proving that wrong, every day, in every classroom.

The Head: understanding agency
These workshops build a shared understanding of what agency is, why it matters, and what it requires of educators before learners can truly access it.
Workshop 01 · 1 Day
What Agency Actually Means
Challenge the assumption that learners cannot do anything on their own. This workshop builds a clear and shared definition of agency, examines why it is so often unintentionally suppressed in schools, and explores what the research tells us about learner motivation, choice, and self-determination.
Workshop 02 · 1 Day
Equity and Inclusion Through Agency
Examine how agency intersects with identity, equity, and belonging. This workshop explores why some learners are given more agency than others, often without anyone realizing it, and how to design learning environments where every learner has a genuine voice and a real stake in their own education.
The Heart: feeling agency
These workshops focus on the relational and emotional conditions that make agency feel real and safe for learners, and the internal shifts educators need to make for that to happen.
Workshop 03 · 1 Day
Voice and Advocacy in the Classroom
Explore what it means for a learner to have a genuine voice, not just the permission to speak, but the confidence, the skills, and the safety to advocate for themselves. This workshop examines how voice develops, what silences it, and how educators can build the conditions where every learner feels heard.
Workshop 04 · 1 Day
Identity, Belonging, and the Will to Learn
Examine the relationship between how a learner sees themselves and how much they are willing to risk in their learning. This workshop draws on the work of Zaretta Hammond and others to explore how identity shapes engagement, and what educators can do to ensure no learner feels they must leave part of themselves outside the classroom door.
The Hands: practicing agency
These workshops are about doing. They focus on the practical choices, structures, and assessment shifts that put agency into daily practice.
Workshop 05 · 1 Day
Choice, Voice, and Self-Assessment
Design learning experiences where choice is real, not cosmetic, and where learners develop the skills to evaluate their own progress honestly. This workshop builds practical frameworks for offering meaningful choice, collecting learner voice, and shifting from teacher-led assessment to genuine self-assessment.
Workshop 06 · 1 Day
Self-Regulation and Character in Learning
Explore the relationship between self-regulation, character, and genuine independence. This workshop moves beyond behavior management to examine how learners develop the inner resources to return to themselves under pressure, stay with a challenge, and make choices that reflect who they want to become.
Bespoke
Built around your school.
Sometimes a school needs something that sits between two workshops. A team that has built a foundation of shared language around agency but is not quite ready to take on assessment redesign. A group that needs the relational work from Workshop 4 and the practical structures from Workshop 5 woven together into one day that is entirely theirs.
Bespoke is the same framework, built around your school's specific people, context, and starting point. No two schools are the same. This option honors that.
Bespoke workshops require a minimum of 8 weeks lead time. The design process begins with a conversation about where your school is and where you want to go.
